Course 1 - Thinking Critically About Professional Ethics
Part 1: Thursday, May 24 from 12-1:30pm CST
Part 2: Thursday, May 31 from 12-1:30pm CST
This seminar is the first 3-hour interactive, online offering in the Edgy Ethics series and is delivered in 2, 1.5-hour sessions. In addition, participants are asked to review their Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice in preparation for the seminar. (CPE credits = 4).
Karma will present a critical overview of the historical context, theories, and assumptions that inform professional ethics in the context of a complex, global, and interrelated world. It concludes with a brief overview of alternative ethical approaches that complement professional ethics.
- recognise how thinking about ethical practice is connected to theoretical and social contexts
- identify strengths and limitations of moral theories that inform professional ethics
- begin to appreciate how alternative and complementary ethical approaches connect with dominant professional ethics and ethical practice
